Language Theory and Infinite Graphs

چکیده

Automata and language theory study finitely presented mechanisms for generating languages. A language is a family of words. A slight shift in focus is very revealing. Instead of grammars and automata as language generators, one views them as propagators of possibly infinite labelled transition graphs. This is our starting point for pushdown automata. The main goal is to report on a proof of decidability of language equivalence for deterministic pushdown automata that uses both graph theoretic and combinatorial arguments.

Nonlocal thermoelastic semi-infinite medium with variable thermal conductivity due to a laser short-pulse

In this article, the thermoelastic interactions in an isotropic and homogeneous semi-infinite medium with variable thermal conductivity caused by an ultra-short pulsed laser heating based on the linear nonlocal theory of elasticity has been considered. We consider that the thermal conductivity of the material is dependent on the temperature. The surface of the surrounding plane of the medium is...

Introduction to rational graphs

Using rationality, like in language theory, we define a family of infinite graphs. This family is a strict extension of the context-free graphs of Muller and Schupp, the equational graphs of Courcelle and the prefix recognizable graphs of Caucal. We give basic properties, as well as an internal and an external characterization of these graphs. We also show that their traces form an AFL of recur...

Adding Monotonic Counters to Automata and Transition Graphs

We analyze models of infinite-state automata extended by monotonic counting mechanisms, starting from the (finite-state) Parikh automata studied by Klaedtke and Rueß. We show that, for linearbounded automata, this extension does not increase the language recognition power. In the framework of infinite transition systems developed by Caucal and others, we show that adding monotonic counters to s...

15 Prefix-Recognizable Graphs and Monadic Logic

In 1969, Rabin [148] showed that the monadic second-order theory (MSO-theory) of infinite binary trees is decidable (see Chapter 12 of this volume or [183]). Ever since, it has been an interesting goal to extend this result to other classes of objects. Muller and Schupp [135] showed that the class of pushdown graphs has a decidable MSO-theory. This class is obtained by considering the configura...

Finitely Presented Infinite Graphs

This thesis contributes to the study of families of finitely presented infinite graphs, their structural properties and their relations to each other. Given a finite alpha-bet Σ, a Σ-labeled infinite graph can be characterized as a finite set of binaryrelations (Ra)a∈Σ over an arbitrary countable domain V . There are many ways tofinitely characterize such sets of relations, eithe...
